About HF:

HF (Hydrofluoric Acid) is an inorganic acid derived from dissolving hydrogen fluoride in water. It is non-combustible, colorless and emits an irritating odor. HF is extremely corrosive and attacks all tissues of the body. Even weak (1%) solutions can rapidly permeate the skin and severely damage underlying tissues. Vapor exposure can burn the eyes and cause blindness. Brief exposure to ≥ 50 ppm can be fatal.

HF Incompatibilities:

HF attacks glass, concrete, metals, leather, rubber, and wood. Always store with secondary containment and never in glass containers.

HF Spills / Safety:

In case of any HF spill, vacate the lab and notify the safety department immediately. When handling HF, ensure no skin is exposed and eye protection is mandatory. Wash protective equipment after use to remove HF buildup. Safety showers and eye wash stations must be clearly marked and accessible. A pack of Safety Gel HF should be readily available.

HF Accidents / Exposures:

Immediate first aid is crucial. For skin contact, remove contaminated clothing and wash with water for 15 minutes. Apply Safety Gel HF to the affected area for 15 minutes, reapplying if pain returns. For eye exposure, rinse with water for 5 minutes, then use Safety Gel HF and Safety Gel HF Eye Wash for another 5 minutes and seek medical attention.

Storage:
